10 Movies That Blatantly Troll The Audience

2. Monty Python And The Holy Grail

EMI Films

Of course, not all trolling is annoying to everyone. After all, the reason people do it is because they find it enjoyable in a twisted way. When the Monty Python comedy troupe got together to film their first narrative movie, Monty Python And The Holy Grail, the group had a very small budget to work with (in fact, some of the money was put up by rock stars who were fans of the Pythons).

Because of the small budget, the group ran out of money to film the expensive ending they wanted so they just decided to end the film with a ridiculous joke on the audience. Partway through the film, a knight on horseback kills a modern historian talking about Arthur's era. Over the course of the movie, modern police are seen investigating the murder. The film's climax builds to what appears to be an epic fight scene between King Arthur's army and the French forces occupying the castle that holds the Holy Grail... and then a police car arrives.

The police arrest Arthur and his trusty companion Sir Bedevere and demand the crew to stop filming. Then it appears that the movie projector breaks and the movie abruptly ends without any credits. As infuriating as this ending is, because it's Monty Python a lot of people see the ending as the comedy troupe just up to their usual tricks of delivering something completely different and surreal. But to be fair, if any other movie ended this way it would likely result in significant outrage.
