10 Movies That Bombed So Hard They Killed The Sequel
1. Terminator Salvation/Genisys/Dark Fate
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines might not have been able to hold a candle to James Cameron's first two classic installments, but at least it managed to bring a trilogy to a close, something that can't be said for the following three attempts at reinventing the long-running sci-fi franchise.
In an effort to restore the Terminator brand to former glories, a new movie was announced that everyone involved claimed would deliver a worthy successor to Judgement Day, giving the fans what they want and launching an all-new trilogy in the process.
What did happen was the exact opposite, as the latest Terminator only disappointed longtime fans and more causal audiences alike, failing to earn enough money at the box office to justify the massive budget and leaving the proposed plans for the supposedly rejuvenated brand in tatters.
Does that describe Salvation, Genisys or Dark Fate? Obviously it's a trick question, because the exact same description could be applied to all three. Here we are, nearly 30 years and three failed reboots later, and the Terminator franchise's future is arguably now more unclear than ever.
