10 Movies That Bombed So Hard They Killed The Sequel

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 suffered greatly at the hands of studio interference that saw far too many unnecessary characters and subplots stuffed into the movie, so it would make complete sense that Sony would go ahead and do the exact same thing again when it came to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

A great deal of the web-slinging sequel was little more than an advert for the upcoming expansion of the studio's Spider-Verse, with the narrative crammed full of supporting players and Easter Eggs in an attempt to let audiences know that there was plenty more to come.

However, this led to a huge lack of focus on the story they were trying to tell, and it would be fair to say the results were less than Amazing. Third and fourth installments were already scheduled for release in 2016 and 2018 respectively, while the Sinister Six, Black Cat and Spider-Man 2099 were all set to get their own spinoffs.

Only a character as popular as Spider-Man could be the subject of a movie that earned $709m at the box office but was still labeled as a major disappointment, and just two years later Tom Holland would make his debut as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's all-new Spidey in Captain America: Civil War.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
