10 Movies That Bombed So Hard They Killed The Sequel

7. Green Lantern

Green Lantern is one of the best examples of how not to launch a superhero franchise, and even if it hadn't bombed at the box office then that wouldn't change the fact that it's a terrible movie.

Ryan Reynolds will be the first person to tell you that, having poked fun at Green Lantern's expense at every available opportunity in the near-decade since, but an effects-heavy comic book blockbuster with sci-fi trappings that's based around the concept of intergalactic law enforcement really had no need to be so unforgivably tedious.

Like almost every other entry in the genre, the movie ended on a sequel-teasing note, but after the first installment barely made back the $200m budget during its theatrical run any plans for more adventures were swiftly abandoned. A reboot as part of the DCEU was first announced back in 2014, and yet still hasn't moved any further forward in the last six years.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
