9. Super Size Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOvrkkj_T-I On to more socially conscious fare now, Morgan Spurlock shot to fame nearly overnight with his incendiary documentary Super Size Me, which made an art of stating the obvious yet was still thoroughly engrossing to watch. Spurlock puts himself through the wringer by electing to eat nothing but McDonalds for a month, gaining twenty pounds, become depressed, sexually apathetic, and suffering liver damage. It wasn't just a stunt, though; Spurlock dove deep into the crass marketing practices of fast food companies at large, and the poor lifestyle choices that the food promotes. Within six weeks of the film being released, McDonalds had removed the Super Size option from their menu, though of course, they refused to admit that it was in any way because of the film. Super Size Me received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary and made over $30m at the box office, with Spurlock's entertaining approach managing to make for an informative and darkly comic time at the movies.
