10 Movies That Changed Your Mind About Actors You Hated
7. In Bruges - Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell tends to be rather hit and miss as an actor - now and then he puts in a worthwhile performance, but there's always the sense that he's phoning the majority of his roles in for the sake of a quick paycheck (and then there's Alexander, a movie which they'll be trying to "work out" until the sun explodes). If you'd have said: "I don't like Colin Farrell" up until, oh, around 2008, then, most people probably would have agreed with you. It surely didn't help that he also has a reputation for being a bit of a d*ck. Which brings us to 2008's In Bruges, a movie whereupon Mr. Farrell seemingly took it upon himself to show the world that he was actually worth something: as Ray, an Irish hitman who escapes to Belgium for the weekend, manages to craft a well-rounded, incredibly believable and oddly sympathetic character. Think about that: Colin Farrell successfully managed to make you like one of his characters (he won a Golden Globe for his role). If he hasn't impressed us much since, In Bruges at least gave us that standard conversation you'll encounter from time to time now: "Do you like Colin Farrell?" "Not really, but he was great in In Bruges."
