10 Movies That Changed Your Mind About Actors You Hated
8. 21 Jump Street - Channing Tatum
Before his turn in 21 Jump Street, the words "Channing" and "Tatum" presumably spurred every male person in the world to either shrug or say something along the lines of: "Ugh." And maybe these people hadn't even seen his work in movies like Step Up and Dear John - they just knew he was the sort of actor who appeared in those sorts of movies, and 90% of the reason why he got to do that had to be based around those good looks, right? Pfft. Still, it wasn't until he was cast alongside Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street that we realised Tatum was cool. Sure, Channing got his start appearing in all those trashy, "please don't make me watch this again, honey, for the love of God" movies that men so desperately try to avoid, but we were all so, so wrong to allow ourselves to presume that that's all this actor could do. His turn in the brilliant and unnecessary 21 Jump Street remake, as an undercover cop who infiltrates a high school to close down a drug ring, is simply hilarious, and it was nice to see Tatum in a different role that wasn't "bland, underrated male lead in disposable rom com." Now you love him, don't you?
Sam Hill is an ardent cinephile and has been writing about film professionally since 2008. He harbours a particular fondness for western and sci-fi movies.
