10 Movies That Completely Swap Genre For Just One Scene

6. Tool's Monologue - The Expendables

The Expendables is known as a big, bombastic behemoth of an action movie. The film €“ and the franchise it spawned €“ relies on the massive marketing draw of reuniting classic action heroes for new team-up adventures. You wouldn€™t expect, then, to witness a lengthy monologue about the emotional cost of being a soldier, and a killer. But that€™s exactly what happens when Sly Stallone€™s Barney character seeks advice from Mickey Rourke€™s Tool one night. €œIf had saved that woman,€ laments Tool about a distant memory of war and death, €œI might€™ve saved what was left of my soul.€ In this scene, the genre suddenly switches from action to drama, with Rourke more than handling the sizeable transition. If it was in a different movie, that monologue could€™ve been Oscar-worthy. Almost.
