10 Movies That Could Be The Big Surprise Hit Of 2016

2. Snowden

What Is It? There's an awful lot of angles Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden biopic can take - there'd be something interesting about a tightly focused piece on his leaking of the NSA documents in 2013 - although this Joseph Gordon-Levitt vehicle looks to be something more expansive, looking at the detailed past of (as the trailer describes him) "The Most Wanted Man In The World." Will It Be Good? Oliver Stone's not been a name to get excited about in recent years, and a delayed release should only really add fuel to the fire. It really depends on what his angle is - if he can bring some of his unflinching political ideals to Snowden then we could have something very interesting (if, like JFK, wildly inaccurate). The delay puts question in quality, given how it's gone from Oscar season to May, although if it was a dud then surely it'd have been put in a dump month? But Will It Be A Hit? The the fact it's going up against big blockbuster hitters in May means that Open Road are hoping for it to be something of an antidote to people who may already be getting a little superheroed, and by that point it'll be hard to argue.
