10 Movies That Could Be The Big Surprise Hit Of 2016
6. Assassin's Creed
What Is It? One of the best video game concepts of the past generation gets the big screen treatment. To be specific, Michael Fassbender's Callum Lynch travels into DNA-stored ancestral memories to become his a an assassin in 15th Century Spain in a bid to stop a century-spanning global conspiracy. It's set in the same world as the games, so quite how the Assassin vs. Templar conflict is poised is unknown. Will It Be Good? Putting aside the video game movie curse, there's a lot going for this film; Fassbender's as the lead is a coup, but so is getting his Macbeth co-star Marion Cotillard and director Justin Kurzel on board. Their Shakespeare film was an incredibly adept adaptation that managed to deliver a great movie without losing sight of the source play. If a similar trick can be pulled here then we could have something pretty great on our hands. But Will It Be A Hit? Out of the three video game properties of 2016, this is the one that we know the least about and thus has the least hype, but things won't stay that way; the unique concept allows for something more freeing than Angry Birds (whose plot is literally that a bunch of birds channel their anger to get some eggs back) and audience friendly than Warcraft (hard fantasy hasn't had a solid big screen hit since The Lord Of The Rings).
