10 Movies That Created Endless Memes
2. Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy
Boy, that escalated quickly.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is arguably the most memed film of all time. The 2004 satirical comedy centering on the life and times of San Diego's beloved lead anchorman - Will Ferrell's Burgundy - featured an ensemble cast and a ridiculous amount of hilariously quotable soundbites, swiftly developing a cult following as a result.
"That escalated quickly" - used as a response to a situation that has gotten out of hand - is likely Anchorman's most famous example. The meme features Burgundy lounging back in his chair with a surprised expression on his face and a beer in hand - the scene itself is from the immediate aftermath of the comically violent brawl between rival news station crews. Did you know Brick killed a guy with a trident?
With that being said, the latter is far from the Adam Mackay-directed comedy's final offering. The soundbites of "60 percent of the time, it works every time", "I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION" and "I don't know how to tell you this but, I'm kind of a big deal" have all featured heavily across social media ever since the original's release nearly two decades ago - feel old yet?
While the 2013 sequel produced a few meme-worthy instances of its own, it never came close to topping the rampant online influence of 2004's inimitable first installment.
