10 Movies That Didn't Understand What The Fans Wanted
8. Justice League
In another universe, Justice League would've been the DCEU's equivalent of The Avengers - a rousing, long-awaited team-up tentpole that saw a charming collection of superheroes, each built up by their own solo movie, coming together to battle a common enemy.
But the DCEU was firmly staggered by the vitriolic response from fans and critics alike to Batman v Superman, and with Justice League starting shooting mere weeks later, there wasn't much time to change tack and execute a course-correction.
Nevertheless, fans were encouraged by the film's first Comic-Con teaser trailer, which promised a lighter tone similar to that of the MCU.
But in the months leading up to Justice League's release, it became clear that it was a project pulled in numerous different directions through a tumultuous production which caused its budget to skyrocket to $300 million.
Joss Whedon was eventually brought in to perform last-ditch surgery on Zack Snyder's hollow husk of a movie, yet between a fast-panicking studio - who insisted Whedon keep the movie under 120 minutes - and Henry Cavill being contractually prevented from shaving his moustache for re-shoots, it's fair to say that Whedon was simply trying to make the best of a catastrophic mess.
The end result certainly tried to evoke the style and tone of an MCU movie with its brighter colour scheme and quip-heavy dialogue, but it basically ended up feeling like a film designed by a studio algorithm to appeal broadly to the widest audience possible.
It did nothing interesting and, while passable for the most casual and undemanding of audiences, was largely dismissed by fans as a soulless non-event.
