9. Beneath The Planet Of The Apes

The original 1968 Planet of the Apes movie very nearly qualifies for this, though as the credits roll following the film's stunning final plot twist, audiences can faintly hear the sound of waves crashing on the shore.

The immediate sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, actually committed to entirely silent credits, quite appropriately doing so after the film climaxes with the death of protagonist Taylor (Charlton Heston) and the destruction of Earth.

If there's any moment somber enough that viewers should be left to ponder on it quietly, it's surely the annihilation of our home planet by a doomsday weapon.

Though Beneath doesn't even begin to touch the brilliance of the original Apes film, its ballsy ending at least boasts the full courage of its convictions.
