10 Movies That Escaped Development Hell (And Were Worth The Wait)

2. Bill & Ted Face The Music

Talks of a third Bill & Ted film were first undertaken in 2008, some 17 years after Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey divided critics and pulled middling business at the box office.

In the decade-plus that followed, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter continually talked-up the project, offering periodic updates on new script drafts and laboured attempts to get the film financed.

Ultimately few studios expressed much interest in the film due to Bogus Journey's mediocre commercial performance, and it wasn't until the surprise success of Reeves' 2014 action thriller John Wick that the tide changed in the project's favour.

Even then, the financials didn't fully come together until 2019, with filming beginning that summer.

And while the trailers for Bill & Ted Face the Music received a fairly mixed response from fans, the end result was an impressively solid three-decades-later follow-up.

It wasn't amazing by any means, but a reverent, warm-hearted sequel - something we all needed in our lives this past summer.
