10 Movies That Escaped Development Hell (And Were Worth The Wait)

1. Deadwood: The Movie

For almost 13 years, fans of HBO's hit western drama Deadwood were left hanging with the show's deeply unsatisfying ending, which tied little up and left most of the central characters frozen in place.

When the show was unexpectedly cancelled by HBO after its third season, creator David Milch attempted to get two TV movies greenlit in lieu of a fourth season to tie up the various character arcs, but after talks fell through, Deadwood was declared, well, dead.

But in 2015 talks were renewed, though fans quite understandably expressed little faith in the project coming together after so long.

But in 2018 HBO confirmed that Milch's script for a two-hour movie had been greenlit, with almost the entire ensemble cast returning for one last hurrah.

Despite such an epic passage of time, Deadwood: The Movie turned out to not only be a fitting capper to the show, but one of the most complete and satisfying endings to any prestige TV show in history. To call it worth the wait is an understatement.
