10 Movies That Fixed Infamous Plot Holes

1981’s Halloween II reveals that tortured babysitter Laurie Strode was not just some random picked by Michael Myers in the first film. The two share a deeper connection: they are actually siblings. This was retconned in a scene that was added to the television version of the first Halloween that aired shortly before the premiere of Halloween II.

This scene features Dr. Loomis inspecting Michael Myers’s room in the mental hospital, where just before escaping he scrawled the word “Sister” on the door. This leads Loomis to draw the conclusion that all along on that fateful Halloween, Michael had been stalking Laurie Strode because she was in fact his long-lost sister.

Why this plot development makes no sense is because No. 1 we’re never shown Michael having a younger sister in the original film’s opening, and No. 2 Michael’s parents were still alive at the end of that opening when they discovered him with the bloody knife after having murdered his older sister. So were the Myers so distraught that their son murdered their daughter that they threw their hands up in the air and said, “Well, apparently we’re s**t parents!” and just dropped Laurie off at an orphanage on their way out to town?

The rest of the films in this continuity, from Parts 4–8, maintained this blood connection between Strode and Myers. Then in 2007’s Rob Zombie remake, the shock-rocker-turned-shock-director spends a third of the film giving Michael and his family a more developed backstory, including Michael’s baby sister who is later adopted by the Strode family.

Fans of the original Halloween never really cared for the brother-sister plot, and so in director David Gordon Greene’s Halloween 2018, this plot point was discontinued. Greene’s film picks up 40 years after the events of the first film and ignores all of the sequels, including part 2 where the plot hole was originally made cannon.
