The Film: The weakest of the original Star Wars trilogy (although thats less to do with Ewoks and more to do with how great the first two are), Return Of The Jedi rounds off the story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Following on from The Empire Strikes Backs cliffhanger, the relationship between Luke and his estranged father is brought to the fore, with the finale forming a conflict between the all-powerful Emperor and young Jedi Luke for Vaders soul. What The Title Gives Away: The origins of Star Wars do allow some self-explanatory titles. The saga began life as George Lucas homage to the Flash Gordon serials of the thirties, so naturally each title should act as a succinct summary of the plot (Flash did it so those who missed an installment can still follow the ongoing adventure). Star Wars has since grown much bigger than a simple throwback and now the title stands out more; it literally tells us the Vader persona wont make it to the end credits. I guess this has grown slightly more problematic now the series which until recently was the story of Anakin will continue beyond his death, making this a mid-story spoiler. At least it's better than the original name, Revenge Of The Jedi, which makes no sense as there's no real revenge.
