Christopher Nolan found himself in an unenviable position when it came to The Dark Knight Rises. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are without a doubt two of the greatest comic book movies ever made, and the concluding chapter in what was going to go down in history as an iconic trilogy came burdened with both massive expectations and an incredible amount of hype.

Even though there has been a surprising backlash against it in recent years, The Dark Knight Rises is still a good movie, if not quite a great one. Although some of the narrative decisions and character motivations can be more than a little questionable at times, it still frequently delivers phenomenal blockbuster entertainment.

A lot of the action is strong, the performances are great across the board and Nolan once again demonstrates his abilities as one of cinema's technical masters, but there are several problems with the movie that stop it reaching the heights of its predecessors. Definitely not the disaster that some people claim it to be, just a movie that had no chance of living up to the unrealistic level of hype and expectation that surrounded its release.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
