10 Movies That Ignored Shockingly Simple Solutions
2. Jaws - Call A Newspaper And Apply Public Pressure To Close The Beaches
Any Mayor who is more concerned with money then his community's lives deserves to be sacked immediately.
Whilst this definitely was not an option for Police Chief Brody in Steven Spielberg's signature shark thriller, it doesn't mean he had no other options than to bow to pressure and keep the beaches open on Amity Island.
A simple tip-off to a local or state newspaper would have been all it needed to spread enough hysteria to ensure that even without significant pressure on the Mayor's office, enough people would have stayed away from the town to mitigate the risk of another shark attack, giving Brody the time to go hunting for the shark without further tragedy.
Whilst Brody could have wound up in the Mayor's crosshairs for tipping off the press, there wouldn't be hard proof to determine he was actually culpable, and marine biologist Cooper could have been the one to do it if needs be!
We would have still got the film's climactic showdown but it would have saved a few more innocent lives along the way.
