10 Movies That Improved On History By Blatantly Lying

6. Pearl Harbour

Pearl Harbour On the converse, here's a film where if you try to take it seriously, you're going to have a bad time. Michael Bay's Pearl Harbour delivers thrilling explosions and a decidedly less-thrilling romantic arc, and it's all been torn to shreds by historians, who basically think the same as everyone else, that the film is pretty much complete garbage. Indeed, for starters, the film shows gung-ho American soldiers fighting off the attack bravely, destroying a lot of Japanese planes, when in actual fact, they didn't manage to down that many at all. Furthermore, seeing FDR get up from his wheelchair is a laughably corny moment that has absolutely no basis in historical fact. That said, the film is a lot of fun if you take it as the goofy cornball Titanic rip-off that it is; the film is never boring, and is a gas to laugh at with a few beers and some similarly knowing friends. One thing's for sure, the spectacular action sequences - easily the best element of the film - certainly benefited from the lies.
