10 Movies That Just Got Cancelled
9. Splinter Cell
Hit video game franchise Splinter Cell quickly positioned itself as one of the best-suited gaming IPs for a film adaptation, and the series' third game, 2005's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, even included a CGI teaser trailer for the planned movie, to be produced by Paramount.
Given the popularity of franchise creator Tom Clancy, it seemed like a video game movie that wouldn't have much trouble going before cameras, especially with Tom Hardy later signing up to star and Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) being tapped to direct.
However, Liman left the film in 2015, after which word basically went cold on the project's progress. That is, until now.
Just last month, producer Basil Iwanyk sadly confirmed that the Splinter Cell movie was dead in the water, noting issues with the script and budget. It's hardly a surprising revelation at this point, though at least Splinter Cell fans have finally been put out of their misery.
