10 Movies That Led To Other Movies Being Cancelled (And Why)

5. Magneto Doesn't Get His X-Men: Origins Thanks To Wolverine

As the most popular and bankable character in the X-Men lineup, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was always going to be the first to get his own spinoff. It wouldn't be until his final outing in Logan that the character finally got the solo movie he deserved, with X-Men Origins: Wolverine widely regarded as one of the weakest entries in the entire mutant franchise.

An unfinished version of the movie leaking online weeks before it was due to hit theaters ultimately hurt the movie's chances of box office success, as well as getting the word out that it simply wasn't very good. When Wolverine's solo debut was finally released, disappointing reviews saw the whole X-Men Origins idea fall at the first hurdle.

X-Men Origins: Magneto was already in development, but the brakes were quickly halted on Erik Lensherr's origin story following the reaction to Wolverine, although some elements of the proposed prequel were folded into the story of what would become X-Men: First Class. Gavin Hood's stab at a comic book movie may have ended the Origins idea in one fell swoop, but it also paved the way for Ryan Reynolds to fight for the chance to give Deadpool the big screen treatment he deserved, which turned out pretty well in the end.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
