Similar to Snow White, Westworld was another film to take a massive gamble on a movie production technique which has influenced filmmaking dramatically ever since.

Michael Crichton's sci-fi thriller was the first major movie to include CGI technology, i.e. - the creation of computer-generated images to form special effects or scenes in a film. The technology was presented in Westworld as an infra-red POV of a robot identifying humans to kill.

The original idea was to use animation to create the iconic scene. However, the studios discovered that this method would take over nine months and would be financially problematic. Instead, the studios decided to implement the technique of digital image processing, which pixelated the scene into an image that audiences could perceive as Gunslinger's point of view.

The decision to become the first movie to use this technology was a success and has led to a great number of studios opting for this art of filmmaking. As a result, CGI has vastly improved which has only been made possible from Westworld's gamble on computer technology.
