10 Movies That Made Subtle Character Changes At The Last Minute
3. Casey Bracket Changed From A Science Teacher To An Evolutionary Biologist - The Predator
It's no secret at all that Shane Black's The Predator went through extensive reshoots before finally arriving in cinemas for a thorough panning from critics and fans alike.
The third act of the film was significantly reshaped in post-production, with entire subplots being removed and character arcs significantly altered.
But one of the more minor changes that came about was a tweak to the profession of the film's female lead, Casey Brackett (Olivia Munn).
The film's first official synopsis, released shortly after reshoots started, referred to Casey as a "disgruntled science teacher," though by the time reshoots were complete and its release was near, the synopsis was updated to refer to her as a "disgruntled scientist." More precisely, she was an evolutionary biologist.
Considering that several weeks of reshoots were conducted to "fix" the ending, it seems that her character's vocation was also changed, to give her a more direct and believable link to the story's central DNA shenanigans, for what little good it served the story.
