Zoe Saldana did a fantastic job playing Gamora in the original Guardians of the Galaxy, though the character very nearly looked subtly different while director James Gunn was conducting various screen tests shortly before shooting started.

For this particular screen test, Gunn had Saldana wear green contact lenses, giving the character a distinctively unnatural hue to her eyes.

Saldana recently explained that the contacts were extremely uncomfortable to wear, and so she was incredibly relieved when Gunn made a last-minute change-of-mind and allowed the actress to simply use her natural brown eye colour for the role.

Considering how effortlessly visual effects can change a character's eye colour, do filmmakers really need to put actors through this kind of suffering and anxiety anymore?
