For some unexplainable reason, though, Sex, Lies and Videotape positions Andie MacDowell has something akin to a tour-de-force; based on this performance, it makes complete sense as to why the model turned actress was able to embark on a career in Hollywood. As a repressed housewife of the Louisiana variety, you totally buy into the character that she conjures up - not only is she bearable here, she's mesmerising.
