10 Movies That Made You Say 'WTF Were They Thinking'

6. Ape-raham Lincoln - Planet Of The Apes

Planet Of The Apes 2001

Speaking of big twist endings, one that was a lot more successful than Remember Me was the original Planet of the Apes in 1968, where Charlton Heston's character discovers that the titular planet was actually Earth all along. However, the 2001 reboot wasn't received anywhere near as well.

Tim Burton - who is of course most famous for his trademark weirdness - changed a lot about the narrative as he helmed the reboot, particularly the ending. Mark Wahlberg's Leo returns to Earth and is greeted by a statue of General Thade in place of Abraham Lincoln, and is surrounded by ape police officers.

Even within the context of this story removing itself from the original, and with no expectation that the twist at the end of the reboot should be the same, this made no sense. Wahlberg coming face-to-face with what the internet has hilariously dubbed 'Ape-raham Lincoln' comes out of absolutely nowhere, and ends the movie on a confusing note that overshadows everything else.

Just about the only thing anyone remembers about this movie is the botched conclusion, and you have to wonder exactly what was going through Tim Burton's head at the time.
