10 Movies That Must Return As A TV Series
2. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
Set aboard an impossibly magical ship and featuring some of Wes Anderson's most complete characters, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou told the story of an underwater documentary crew and their madcap adventures both on and off land. Has there ever been a more obvious thing to do than actually start making the Zissou documentaries for a TV series? No, there hasn't.
Anderson's never done television, of course, save for a few adverts that most people have never seen, so getting him on board might be a sticking point. Thankfully his style is now so frequently copied, referenced and lampooned that almost any other director could likely get that same feel across in a 30 minute episode. The personal and involving faux-documentary set up that we've seen in The Office and Modern Family has led to these shows being two of the most loved and successful TV comedies of recent years, and "archive footage" spliced together with bits to camera isn't a million miles away from the formula Anderson used in the first place.
There's a whole backstory of Zissou's original documentaries to explore, as well as the films he planned to make after the events of the film. Bill Murray honestly hasn't aged a day since 2004 either so both would be an option.
