When you think about movies based around musicians, after the recent uptick in biopics in this particular area, your mind is likely to head to the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody or Rocketman. Hell, even Spinal Tap may come near the top of the list for audiences of a certain age.

One outing that absolutely shouldn’t be slept on, however, is Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. The movie, released alongside their album of the same name, details the band’s fictional history from the moment they met right up until they fought the literal Devil in a rock-off.

The song titled Beelzeboss makes for a fantastic finale; it is heavy, showcases the incredible talents of both Jack Black and Kyle Gass, and even has the immortal Dave Grohl thrown in for good measure. However, it simply can’t beat the opening scenes of the movie, set to Kickapoo.

This told the story of young Jables’ defiance against his anti-rock upbringing and set him on the path to Hollywood and the D. Sure, Dave Grohl as the Devil is cool, but both Meatloaf and Ronnie James Dio on the same track? You just can’t argue with that.
