Legacy sequels have quickly become one of the most popular routes for studios to take. Though typically leaving more than a little to be desired, audiences keep heading to the cinemas, which is why a movie like Jurassic World was able to gross over $1.5 billion worldwide.

The 2015 blockbuster restarted one of the most famous movie franchises in the world, and by the end of it, the titular theme park had fallen to much the same fate as the original Jurassic Park. This led directly into the opening of the sequel.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened with a crew in search of the Indominus Rex skull under the waters of Isla Nublar, though they were soon to be encountered by the deadly one-two punch of both the Mosasaurus and the T-Rex. This scene showed the terror that these dinosaurs could bring to the screen, and got the Jurassic World sequel off to the best possible start.

Generally found plying his trade within the horror genre, it seemed that the hiring of J.A. Bayona as the director would be a huge payoff after the terrifying and gripping opening moments. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie couldn’t even come close to matching this intensity.
