10 Movies That Never Got Better Than Their Opening Moments
6. Austin Powers In Goldmember
The Austin Powers film trilogy was something that you just couldn’t take too seriously. There were even fourth-wall-breaking jokes that asked the audience not to think too much about the time-travel story of The Spy Who Shagged Me, but the meta jokes didn’t stop there.
The third in the series, and what some would argue is the best, opened with Austin Powers on-set of the Steven Spielberg movie being made about his life, though it wasn't obvious that this was the case straight away.
The opening shot played out like a typical James Bond-esque chase scene, before revealing that the star of the show was Tom Cruise as Austin Powers. This was followed by Gwyneth Paltrow as Dixie Normous, Kevin Spacey as Dr. Evil, and Danny DeVito as Mini Me before the legendary director himself showed off one of his Academy Awards.
These were, and still are for the most part, genuinely major names in the realms of Hollywood, and the fact that they all had cameos within the opening minutes of Goldmember is quite ridiculous. Multiverse of Madness eat your heart out.
