1. Ghost In The Shell

While Sonic the Hedgehog not looking like Sonic the Hedgehog, or Super Mario not sounding like Super Mario may have upset a lot of people, there are other issues that have been had with movies that go much deeper than just the audio or visual.
In 2017, Paramount Pictures produced a live-action adaptation of the incredibly popular manga series, Ghost in the Shell. Beginning with the graphic novel, the franchise expanded out into animated films, comics, TV series, and video games, but this saw the property's first foray into the world of live-action.
To say it got off to the worst possible start would be a huge understatement, as the announcement that Scarlett Johansson would portray the Major was met with a huge backlash. The film was immediately accused of whitewashing the character and the story, choosing to take the Japanese main character and instead replace them with a Caucasian actor.
Scarlett Johansson is a fantastic talent and a big name to attach to any movie, but it was completely tone-deaf to cast her in a role that could have and should have gone to a Japanese actor, pushing for better representation in the movie industry and opening the door for Hollywood to be better in an aspect in which it has historically not been good enough.
