10 Movies That Pissed People Off Before They Even Released

9. Borderlands

Lionsgate

This is the second entry on this list and the second to be a video game adaptation. Spoiler alert, there are even more to come. In spite of Borderlands having millions of dollars thrown at it, along with a cast list boasting some impressive names, the film still fell at the first hurdle.

Fans of the gaming series have come to love these characters since the first Borderlands released in 2009, and too many of them missed the mark. In particular, Kevin Hart as the six-foot, serious Roland was a headscratcher, Cate Blanchett playing Lilith, who is in her 20s in the games, was a similarly strange decision, and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina didn't feel like the same character at all.

Granted, there is only so much you can take from a trailer, but fans also had other major gripes, including the tone, with the comedy in particular not feeling anything like how Borderlands should. Unfortunately, it seems that such disappointments from before the release weren't pacified after, as it became one of the biggest bombs of the year, arguably the decade.
