10 Movies That Prove Fanboys Should Never Get What They Want
4. They Don't Always Know Best - The Dark Knight
Remember when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker in The Dark Knight? You can trawl through online archives today and find message board comments from 2007 in which fanboys rather rudely decried Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan for casting the Oscar-nominated actor, who they felt was completely wrong for the part. The egg ended up being on their faces, however, when Ledger not only completely stole the movie, but won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work. Because fanboys have likely spent years studying the source material and tirelessly watching the previous movies, they often feel like an authority on the subject to the point that they won't accept any creative deviation, and anything different is patently wrong. They might think they know best, but Nolan and Ledger smacked the haters down in the best way possible, by categorically giving not just a great portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime, but the best that cinema has yet seen. So, when we hear fanboys crying about Jesse Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor or Ben Affleck putting on the cape and cowl, it's best not to get too worried: just because they make a lot of noise, it doesn't mean they're right.
