10 Movies That Prove Fanboys Should Never Get What They Want
5. The "Us And Them" Mentality - The Avengers
Even when a movie is great, fanboys will find a way to transform something awesome into something embittered and nasty. Take Joss Whedon's The Avengers, which surpassed the expectations of most to become one of the most gleefully entertaining comic book movies to date. However, take a look online during the hours after the movie opened for the public, and while there were plenty of people saying "great job, awesome movie guys!", there were almost as many people shouting "RIP DC", referring to the numerous failed attempts to get a Justice League movie made (something which now appears to be a reality). Fanboys by their nature are territorial and protective, because the culture they consume is often an intrinsic part of their personality, and this can often result in catty aggression towards "rival" franchises. As such, even when they get what they want, they can be total a**holes about it, rather than doing the sensible thing and enjoying whatever both sides of the coin have to offer: there shouldn't be an "us and them" mindset as audiences (even though Marvel must love such fierce brand loyalty), just great movies and bad ones.
