10 Movies That Prove The 90's Were The Golden Age Of Action
9. Con Air
Simon West announced himself as an action director to watch with his classic feature debut, and while the English filmmaker never lived up to the potential shown here, Con Air has undoubtedly stood the test of time as a classic of the genre.
It helps when the movie boasts a cast more likely to appear in an awards-baiting prestige drama than a balls-to-the-wall $75m blockbuster, with Nicolas Cage and his glorious mullet ably supported by a scenery-chewing supporting cast of Johns Cusack and Malkovich, Ving Rhames, Colm Meaney and Steve Buscemi.
While the infectious enthusiasm of the cast elevates the script well above B-movie material, Con Air is no slouch in the action department either and boasts several high-octane set-pieces. It veers dangerously close to self parody but know this and gleefully embraces the fact. The movie may be big, loud, dumb and stupid, but it is just too outrageously entertaining to care.
