6. Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

2008 was a much simpler time, with MCU still in its infancy, Ledger's Joker making waves, and the return of one of the most beloved characters in blockbuster history. The excitement was very much real, especially with the same team behind the camera that made the preceding venerated trilogy.

And to be fair, Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull isn't without merit. They did get the protagonist right, centring now on an older and more mature Indie who changed and evolved since we've last seen him, which was in no doubt helped by Harrison Ford's portrayal. There were also some fresh new ideas in there (somewhere), showing that they weren't prepared to cover the same ground.

But as the old cliché goes, there's a massive difference between potential and reality. The "new" angle featuring aliens rather than deities didn't work, where shoehorning them at the very end turned them into a missed opportunity.

Karen Allen and John Hurt's characters didn't add much to the story either, and the less said about the fridge-nuking scene the better. Its biggest failure though was not providing any real stakes or danger, which is unforgivable in any action film, let alone one under the Indiana Jones banner.
