10 Movies That Really Stay With You
7. Ex-Machina
A film which looks at the pitfalls of a society increasingly reliant on technology and how far we've pushed its limits; Ex-Machina is Alex Garland's finest work to date (and that is saying something). The film follows Domhnall Gleeson's Caleb as he takes part in a ground-breaking AI experiment organised by Oscar Isaac's eccentric Nathan.
It is a film absolutely dripping in brilliant performances, all three of its lead actors are in career-defining form, and one which tackles its subject matter in a dark and gritty manner it perhaps deserves. It forces its audience to question their relationship with technology, an all too prevalent part of modern society, and whether we are pushing its boundaries too far.
Nathan's social experiment seeks to test that theory and the answer, and build up to its jaw-dropping ending, makes for a truly unsettling and gripping film.
Ex-Machina is truly one of the great modern Sci-Fi films and if you haven't seen it yet, you really need to. It'll be playing over in your head for some time afterwards, guaranteed.
