10 Movies That Salvaged Terrible Characters

5. Deadpool - Deadpool

As hard as it may be to believe, given the ridiculous success of Ryan Reynold's now-most famous on-screen turn, there was once a time when Fox simply had no clue what they were doing with everyone's favourite Merc with a Mouth.

The early signs were admittedly positive, with Reynolds first quipping onto the scene in a memorable early X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequence which saw him literally deflecting bullets with his trademark dual blades. Then someone thought it would be a brilliant idea to sew Wade Wilson's glorious mouth shut in the closing stages and have lasers shoot out of his eyes.

Needless to say, Weapon XI didn't exactly sit well with diehard fans of the hilarious killing machine.

Thankfully, 7 years on from that damp squib of a Wade, Reynolds was able to give the character he held dear the cinematic outing he was looking for, equipped with more gruesome violence and meta, fourth-wall breaking than you can shake a Hugh Jackman face-mask at.

Not content with that, Deadpool's sequel continued in the same vein as its predecessor, setting up an MCU arrival later down the line which will no doubt pump some much needed Rated R fuel into the Marvel mix.
