10 Movies That Should Be Remade Next

4. The Towering Inferno

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
20th Century Fox

Hollywood just doesn't make em' like this any more. An epic in almost every sense of the word, The Towering Inferno boasted an A-list cast led by megastars Paul Newman and Steve McQueen and became the highest-grossing movie of 1974 and won three Academy Awards from eight nominations. It was without a doubt the high point from the 'Golden Age' of the disaster movie.

Sadly, in the age of superhero blockbusters and fantasy epics, the disaster movie has become an almost-forgotten sub-genre unless your name is Roland Emmerich.

The appeal of a remake should be clear; combining a high-concept premise with cutting-edge special effects and a star-laden cast has 'blockbuster' written all over it. However, these days the project would probably cost at least $150m so it seems unlikely that it will come under consideration for a modern-day retelling anytime soon.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
