10 Movies That Should Have Been Horror
6. Buried
Another film with a hellish premise to work through, Buried is a 2010 Spanish film starring Ryan Reynolds, written by Chris Sparling and directed by Rodrigo Cortes. The film follows truck driver and veteran Paul Conroy who, after being attacked one day, wakes up to find himself buried alive in a wooden coffin with just a handful of materials to survive.
Claustrophobic and intense throughout, this thriller has all the potential to stand as a terrifying horror flick with just a couple of tweaks. Tight dark spaces have been a staple of the horror genre for countless years, and the ordeals Conroy is put through, both physically and mentally, in his battle for survival is something a script with a more graphic direction could have really hammered home.
On top of that, Buried's hopeless ending is the kind of sombre end note one would usually reserve for the world of horror.
Horror movies have also garnered a reputation for being the best at making the most out of a simple premise, and Buried can hardly make things any more simple during the course of its runtime.
