10 Movies That Show You Shouldn’t Trust Strangers

9. House Of Wax (2005)

Single White Female
Warner Bros. Pictures

After their fan belt is cut while camping on the way to a football game, Carly and Wade accept a lift from a strange man to the nearby town to get a new one. He is a bit odd so they ask to be let out and walk the rest of the way. This distrust of strangers is forgotten when they meet a charming mechanic called Bo who agrees to help. Unbeknownst to them, Bo was the one who cut the fan belt, engineering that they would seek his help.

There are some details that should have raised alarm bells for them, including why are there so few people in the town, and why someone would cut their fan belt in the first place. However, they meet Bo coming out of a funeral, so feel sorry for him, and are grateful that he is willing to help at such a sad time for him. Also, how lucky for them that the one person they meet just happens to be a car mechanic!

Bo informs them that he doesn't have the right fan belt at the garage, so they go to his house with him to get one, before he kidnaps them with his twin brother Vincent. The horrific events of the movie then unfold, with the characters presumably wishing they had kept a pair of tights in the car to use as a spare fan belt!
