10 Movies That Spent Decades In Development Hell (And Still Lived Up To The Hype)

9. Toy Story 3

Pixar

When it debuted in 1996, the original Toy Story catapulted Pixar into the movie-making scene, while also changing the landscape of animation. Its sequel Toy Story 2 was arguably even better, delivering a deeper story and characters. In the years following, the two films developed an enormous following with audiences.

Pixar had moved on to other projects at the turn of the millennium, though given how successful the first two entries were, audiences were still expecting a third entry to round off the series in a big way. Eventually, they got exactly that as the third Toy Story arrived in theatres in 2010.

Coming twelve years after 2, Toy Story 3 was a superb finale to the trilogy with all the charm and humour that made the series so memorable. Many an audience grew up with both the first two flicks and Andy himself, so it was all the more emotional when these same viewers connected with the character and the sense of moving on with their lives.

On top of that, the animation had improved tremendously in the time gap between 2 and 3; with Pixar's team having honed their skills, the progression that turned up on screen was a feast to the eyes.
