7. The Frighteners Was Originally A Tales From The Crypt Sequel
Long before he was a household name Peter Jackson was trying to find his feet in Hollywood and was taking any odd job he could get; at one point he even wrote a script for A Nightmare On Elm Street sequel. In the mid-nineties he wrote a treatment for The Frighteners and pitched it to producer Robert Zemeckis, who was looking for scripts for the next Tales From The Crypt movie. Zemeckis loved the idea and hired Jackson to write a script of it; but before it was completed the last Tales From The Crypt movie Bordello Of Blood bombed at the box office. Zemeckis thought the idea was strong enough to stand on its own, so he threw caution to the wind and greenlit The Frighteners to be a standalone movie. Although it didnt set the world on fire it became a cult classic, and the movie is seen by many to be Jacksons training ground for the VFX heavy Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
