10 Movies That Struggled To Define Their Own Rules
5. Physics Vs. The Human Body - Fast & Furious 6
Though the Fast and the Furious series started out as a modest-ish racing franchise, by the time the fourth movie came around, the vehicular shenanigans began to grow increasingly cartoonish, leading to the present day predicament where a sojourn to space is actually genuinely likely.
The ramping up of physics-defying car warfare is one thing, but the impact this has on the human body has proven massively inconsistent between movies.
At this point in the franchise's life, the main characters are basically superheroes, and the major turning point for this occurred in Fast & Furious 6, where Dom (Vin Diesel) literally allows himself to be launched through the air in order to save Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) from a fatal fall.
Their landing? The windshield of a car, which given the velocity they were both being catapulted at, would most certainly have killed them both regardless. But of course, the pair hilariously walk away moments later with nothing more than a scuffed pant leg.
Granted, The Fast and the Furious series' prime virtue is that it doesn't take itself remotely seriously - beyond all that "family" guff, anyway - but for some fans it remains the quintessential shark-jumping moment where even the vaguest tether to our tangible reality was severed.
If this were real life, Letty would've been turned into Swiss cheese and Dom had his spine snapped like a twig.
