10 Movies That Stunned Comic-Con (But Regular Audiences Hated)

1. Superman Returns

Superman_returns_rebootThe Buzz: It's a Superman movie...at Comic-Con...how is it not going to get the hype train moving? Bryan Singer did the usual deal and showed off a bunch of shots of Superman hovering above Earth and flying around, which is all-but-guaranteed to get a crowd on their feet. The definitive Superman movie, it seemed - if we didn't get it in 1978 - had arrived. Regular Audiences: Unfortunately, the clips at Comic-Con failed to convey that Superman Returns is, aside from being a visually stunning superhero movie, also a plodding, excessively long 154-minute epic about a deadbeat dad returning to Earth. Though the film is technically excellent and boasts some fun performances, it's just overstuffed and gets bogged down with morose drama constantly. As a result, it took a disappointing $391 million at the box office (compared to Man of Steel's recent $657 million), and is regarded as one of the more contentious (though not universally reviled) Superman outings to date.
