10 Movies That Stunned Comic-Con (But Regular Audiences Hated)

8. Cowboys and Aliens

Cowboys and AliensThe Buzz: Sure proof of just how intoxicating the Comic-Con atmosphere and experience can be, Jon Favreau's Cowboys and Aliens premiered in full at the Con, and was received with a litany of ecstatic reviews such as this. Regular Audiences: As well as being derided by most critics on general release, Cowboys and Aliens failed to ignite at the box office, barely making its budget back, likely due to its oddly self-serious tone and general lack of interest. Favreau made a key mistake by letting slip to audiences back at SDCC 2010 (the year prior) that the film was a serious pastiche of sci-fi and western genres, and evidently, audiences had a full year to decide if that was something worth watching (it wasn't).
