4. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Now that the millennial and Gen Z generations have overtaken their predecessors as the dominating voice in the pop culture discussion, there's been a shocking widespread reevaluation of the Star Wars Prequel films. Well, not very shocking, truth be told, if you've actually been paying attention, you probably saw this coming from miles away. After all, for such a maligned series of movies, they did do very well at the box office and got a lot of spin off material based on them, didn't they?

Case in point, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Practically the poster child for the phrase "be careful who you make fun of in high school". Not to say it's perfect - even the film's most ardent defender will admit to its typically accused faults. But after almost thirty years of the prequels being the constant butt of the internet's joke, after nearly driving the actor who portrayed Jar jar Binks, Ahmed Best to suicide, after all the threats on George Lucas' life and the likely permanent emotional scarring on then child actor Jake Lloyd.

After all of that, is it finally okay to admit that maybe it all went a little overboard? Unlike the other entries on this list, no one has a right to judge, cause all of our ledgers have blood on them with this movie. For almost 30 years, if your joke repertoire included digs at films, Phantom Menace or one of the other prequels was in there somewhere.

You'd probably like to think we've learned from that experience. But, erm...
