10 Movies That Suffered Undeserved Fan Backlash

3. Batman And Robin

Batman And Robin is not the best Batman movie, not by a long shot. But to see the kind of rage the thought of this film raises in some Batman fans, and then sitting down to actually watch the movie, you'll more than likely be left disappointed at it not being worse.

As it stands, it's a campy, pun filled superhero romp whose cardinal sin was being made in a film series that was known for being grounded and serious, causing a tonal whiplash that the film never really recovers from. Besides that and some poorly thought out design choices for the costumes and sets, there really isn't a whole lot else wrong with this film. Definitely nothing that would warrant the comic book movie dying and needing to be revived by Blade and X-Men years later.

George Clooney was a natural as Batman, Arnold Schwarzenegger imbued Mr. Freeze with surprising depth and really sold the scenes where he was pining for his wife. And Poison Ivy was 7 flavors of campy fun.

Batman has been adapted so many times into film that we've now seen the most extreme sides of either form. Batman V. Superman is the natural extreme of dark, grim and gritty Batman, while Batman And Robin is the natural extreme of lighthearted and campy Batman.

If we're all forced to choose, surely the latter of those is at least more fun.
