10 Movies That Take Themselves Way Too Seriously
5. Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016)
The potential Batman Vs. Superman had going for it was honestly limitless, and yet director Zack Snyder smothered it with a film so drab, unattractive and tactless that it's a wonder it was made at all.
Featuring Henry Cavill's Superman at his most dull and angsty, and Ben Affleck's Batman at his most humourless, Dawn of Justice attempts to tell a powerful story of powerful people coming to blows, but buries itself in lifeless visuals, incoherent character motivations, and truly horrendous dialogue ("Why did you say that name!")
Dampened by Snyder's trademark style, including overused slow-mo and moody lighting, the crossover event wants so badly to be something epic and affecting, when in actuality its action and unlikable protagonists make it relentlessly convoluted and, once the two man-children come to blows, quite laughable.
Losing sight of its what makes it title characters sing -- who wants to see a moody Superman anyway? -- Dawn of Justice really deserved so much more.
